Final Scene and Story

Your final scene should meet or exceed the assessment criteria we laid out as a class.

You should submit two things for your scene. First, you should submit an Alice3 file (or files) to Moodle, and you should also submit a link to the YouTube version of your scene. Remember, those links can be "unlisted" videos so they do not show up in searches, if you like.

Reflection

Along with your final scene, I would like a self reflection that addresses three key points. This can be as short or long as you feel it needs to be.

  1. Consistency. Did you work at your scene consistently outside of class? Or, did you only take advantage of class time? Was it adequate, and why (or why not)?

  2. Craft. Did your work reflect an attempt to bring craft, or care in the construction your animation and code?

  3. Continuing. Do you feel you could explore further animation or programming-type activities in the future on your own based on this experience? Why or why not?

Length: 2-3 pages, more if need be. Probably around 1.5 pages.

You will not be assessed on grammar, etc. on this document; I am interested in your thoughts and reflections, first-and-foremost.

Self Evaluation

Finally, I ask how you would evaluation your work on the final scene. The Berea College grading scale says that:

  • An A represents excellent work,
  • A B represents good work, and
  • A C represents competent work.

Competent means that you are able to do something successfully; it does not speak to any kind of excellence whatsoever. Something that is good is something that is desirable. Excellent means outstanding, or otherwise exceptional.

You may justify your self-evaluation, if you wish, but I am mostly curious as to how you would complete the following sentence:

"I believe my work on the final project in CSC 111: Storytelling resulted in an outcome that is [INSERT WORD HERE]." Your options for the completion of this sentence are the words excellent, good, and competent.

Length: 1 sentence. It should be the last sentence of the reflection.

Moodle: It is part of the self reflection.

Bonus: I always have to check the actual title of the course. One bonus point if you use the correct title of the course in your sentence.

Presentation of Scene

To present your scene, we'll use Google Docs. This way, you can include a slide or two that provides some background, and you can embed your YouTube video directly. Please share this presentation with the user jadudm.berea when you are done.

  • Title: A title slide with your name, the date, and the title of your scene.
  • Plot: A two- or three-bullet statement of the plot, no more.
  • Scene: Embed your scene here.
  • Learning: What was the single most significant learning moment for you in this project? It could be personal or technical.
  • The Time Machine: Given a time machine, how would you approach this project differently if you could go back in time and do it again?

You will only have 6 minutes to present your work, so you have roughly two minutes on each of the four most important slides. That is a very short amount of time, so do plan on being concise.

The presentation is about sharing, not grading. We'll have some homemade cookies and milk, perhaps some popcorn, and enjoy each-other's movies.

Length: Five slides. If you use more slides, remember I'm going to have to keep us moving at roughly 5-6 minutes per person. So... don't go nuts.

Google Docs

Please create your presentation in Google Docs. You will, when you are done, do two things:

  1. Share them with jadudm.berea at gmail.com. That is me.

  2. Export a PDF version, and upload the PDF version to Moodle.

The goal is to be able to leave my Google account open, and just flip from one presentation to the next. It will make things go faster, and it will keep you focused on the content and the timing as opposed to the silliness of all the features of Microsoft Powerpoint.
