This assignment is designed to get us thinking about the purposes of our library outreach and also how we want to approach the experience.

One really exciting and rewarding part of this course is the outreach we will do at the Berea branch of the Madison County Public Library, which is located at 319 Chestnut St, just a short walk from campus. Our two outreach events will take place on Saturday, April 21, 2018 and Sunday, April 29, 2018 from 2:30 to 4:30 pm. You only need to go to one of these events, but you must commit to a specific one in advance.
In this first part, you will read, and reflect and summarize main ideas:
- Watch, read, reflect on and summarize the main points of Three Important Reasons to Do STEM Outreach
- Reach, reflect on and summarize the key points of The Science of Interest: Cognitive Research To Engage Students and Foster Real Learning. Note that this article is longer than the above, so it requires more skill to capture the main ideas. (However, such skills are really important in College and in life!)
In this second part, I would like you to apply the above to our upcoming outreach. Please answer each of the following in one or more paragraphs:
- We can probably all recall any childhood experiences which seemed small or unimportant to others, but which had a positive impact on our life. Thinking of these, describe how you think we could design our robot outreach to most positively effect children who attend.
